A COMMON GRAIN
Natural elements and wood tones are most always a trend in interiors, and it is often the common feature that you can find in almost any interior space. The applications of wood could vary from a wood-look product or actual natural hardwood.
There is something about a woodgrain that feels comforting and provides some great visual interest to interior spaces. Due to the importance of biophilia in interior spaces for mental health and well being, wood tones are a key element to bring the outside in.
Unsure where you want to have wood incorporated into your home design? There are many different ways that we see these wood pieces incorporated, and we have a few to share here!
Wood Flooring: This is probably the most common and widely seen application of wood in interior residential design. Luxury vinyl tile that looks like wood plank, or porcelain tile that has a wood look finish are all extremely common in the current market. Natural hardwood is also another option that can be found, but is often less common due to cost, and the expertise required for proper installation.
Wood Furniture: This application is also quite obvious, but wood furniture! Many kitchen tables are made to have a wood-look finish even if they have a different substrate. Frames of furniture, and furniture bases are also often a wood-look finish.
Millwork: Cabinetry is another way that wood is incorporated into a space. While painted cabinetry is very popular and beautiful, the wood cabinets are still very much in the style! Of course, the stain of wood cabinets and style of the doors vary dramatically, so you can incorporate wood into your home in a way that fits your style.
Artwork and Accent Walls: If you have a home that does not have would-look floors, cabinets, or furniture, another way that you can incorporate wood tones is through artwork and wall accents. The skinny wood vertical slat wall is a very popular mid-century modern vibe that we’ve seen trending recently. These slats can also be turned horizontal in certain applications for a modern approach. You can also incorporate wood in your picture frames and include it in various art installations.
It is interesting to stop and consider all the different ways that wood can be incorporated into your home. A lot of times, homeowners have a multitude of applications of wood in their home, and it can be a challenge to coordinate various grains and stain colors. While the idea of including a wood product is a common thread throughout interiors, matching those wood tones is often quite a struggle! We recommend a high contrast between wood stains if you are wanting to mix so that there is variation among your interior. If you want a similar wood tone, be sure to have samples of the products beforehand to confirm that your wood products do actually complement or correspond rather than look like a mistake.
